Project Overview

CryoDAO, HydraDAO, Tomorrow Bio, and Cryopets are partnering to develop the first purpose-built long-term cryopreservation facility and research lab in the United States. This facility builds on the success of the world’s first such site, the European Biostasis Foundation, opened in Switzerland in 2022. With a projected size of 8,000–9,000 sqft on a 2-acre plot, the facility will be designed for the safe, secure storage of 1,000–2,000 patients, with expansion capabilities.

CryoDAO and HydraDAO have been founded to fund and advance truly frontier research in their respective fields. The DAO founding teams have deep field experience and have been working diligently with top researchers to determine which research has not yet been attempted, but should, and which research paths are the most promising in yielding technologies that could benefit community members and their families soon. Some identified projects aren’t suitable for academic labs or collaborations with private companies.

We have determined that hiring research teams and implementing such projects in-house would be of the highest value to community members. The DAO funding the project would then own 100% of the IP (similar to CryoDAO’s project, Cryorat), and the project’s community would govern the commercialization of the IP.

Ready to start construction:

  • Construction plans incl. all cryopreservation-specific factors available
  • Real-world experience of designing, building, running, and improving a cryopreservation facility (only team in the world)
  • Learnings from three years of operations (OR cases, field cryoprotection cases, cooldown, WB CT-scanning at -196°C, etc)
  • Support from a large community, comprehensive governance and financial plans
  • Funding for construction to be raised via direct donations and STASIS token
  • Two organizations would store patients at the facility (Tomorrow.bio US, Cryopets) from day one
  • SST teams standing ready at four US locations

The facility will be built in Comfort, Texas, on land provided by the Stasis Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that acquired a 645-acre estate in Comfort with the vision of creating a research park for cryonics. We have two additional plots (each ≈2.5 acres) in Texas as backup options.

CryoDAO and HydraDAO aim to tokenize this project with the STASIS token, giving the DeSci community the opportunity to support the launch of the new research and storage facility and govern CryoDAO’s and HydraDAO’s in-house research projects in this lab, as well as aspects of the storage facility itself.

An initial 200,000 USDC (100,000 USDC from CryoDAO and 100,000 USDC from HydraDAO) is requested to support early fundraising efforts, detailed architectural planning, graphic/visual and web design, and contribute to the construction of the building and lab.

This proposal enables CryoCore and HydraCore to dictate the timing of the fundraise, total fundraise amount, and all other details associated with the presale to the best of their ability and for the benefit of DAO tokenholders.

Governance

The STASIS token is used to govern the American Biostasis DAO, as well as govern which projects CryoDAO and HydraDAO launch in the research lab.

Ecosystem Incentives

  • Members receive token incentives for signing up for a biostasis service provider that is affiliated with the American Biostasis Foundation.
  • Receive token incentives for referring a member to sign up for a biostasis service provider that is affiliated with the American Biostasis Foundation.
  • Biostasis service providers receive token incentives for initial facility partnership.
  • Biostasis service providers receive token incentives for each patient stored at ABF.

Exact incentive rewards will be proposed in a subsequent STASIS governance proposal and are expected to be recalculated on a set schedule.

Token incentives are designed to reward involvement, support, and activities that enable community growth.

Further Use Cases

Our aim is to have the STASIS token be central to the biostasis ecosystem, providing certain privileges and priority access to various products and services in the cryonics field and beyond. These use cases will be announced over time. $STASIS is a governance token, just like $CRYO and $HYDRA.

Challenge

Pre-construction incl. Due Diligence, Land survey, etc: $300,000

Construction: $2,900,000

Lab (incl. CT- Scanner): $850,000

Medical Equipment (incl. Surgical Theater): $400,000

Total: $4,450,000

Funding will be raised via donations and STASIS token sale. Investment return from cryopreserved patients/pets funds will offset ongoing operating costs once more than 90 patients are in cryostasis.

Opportunity

The cryopreservation facility, which is the subject of this governance proposal, would also contain a research lab. This research lab is designed to be able to eventually house both CryoDAO and HydraDAO in-house projects, thus enabling the DAOs to fund more exciting and more promising projects.
