Cryopreservation - The cutting edge of medical technology

Cryopreservation is an advanced medical procedure that uses extremely low sub-zero temperatures to induce biological pause without freezing. Cryopreservation involves perfusing cryoprotective agents (medical grade anti-freeze) in order to enter sub-zero temperatures with little to no formation of ice-crystals.

Cryopreservation has many current and potential applications in the space of organ or even human preservation. Research in this field has historically been low, but interest is steadily increasing! CryoDAO is investing in cryopreservation research projects to advance this cutting edge technology.

C. elegan cryopreservation

Researchers have cryopreserved and then revived C. elegans with their memories intact.

Researchers were able to cryopreserve and rewarm a rabbit’s kidney. After the rewarming the organ was transplanted and demonstrated full functionality.

A rabbit’s brain remained in near perfect condition after it was cryopreserved and rewarmed. The synapses, cell membranes, and intracellular structures remained intact.

CryoDAO's Objective

Interest in cryopreservation is increasing, but there isn't enough research happening in the field. Even small amounts of research funding could achieve advancements such as creating new cryoprotective agents to reduce toxicity or creating different cryoprotection protocols based on ischemia.

CryoDAO's objective is to invest in cryopreservation research projects that have a high potential to increase the quality and capabilities of cryopreservation.
